Mission Statement
All aspects in the provision of mental illness, mental retardation,
and substance abuse services by and through the Alabama Department of
Mental Health and Mental Retardation (DMH/MR) shall be consumer and
family driven, based upon the identified needs and expressed desires of
consumers and their families.
The continuum of care of each DMH/MR service division will meet the
needs of consumers and be targeted toward improving the quality of their
lives, and shall be designed in concert with consumers and families.
Outcomes shall be based upon, and measured by, consumer and family
satisfaction.
Quality is defined as meeting customer requirements. Therefore, the
administrative component of services at all levels of the system shall
be customer driven. Administrative services shall be formulated to meet
its customers’ requirements, so that care and treatment staff can
provide services to clients in the most effective and efficient manner
possible. Quality outcomes for administrative services shall be based on
customer requirements and assessed by customer satisfaction.
The entire system of DMH/MR services shall also recognize as its
customers, not only the clients and families it serves directly, but
also the citizens of Alabama who are represented by a multitude of
individuals, agencies and organizations. The outcomes of the DMH/MR
system shall also be monitored and evaluated by the satisfaction level
expressed by its consumers.
